Texas Original, the leading medical cannabis provider in the state, has opened its newest medical cannabis prescription pickup location in Katy—the company’s only location in the Katy area, according to an August 29 press release. This location joins existing Houston-area Texas Original locations in Houston Heights, Sugar Land and Conroe. This location, in partnership with Buena Vida Hospice, a Katy-area hospice and palliative care provider that provides patients access to medical cannabis medication, under the direction of Buena Vida Hospice Medical Director Dr. Francisco Medrano.

“Many of the palliative care and terminal patients we treat at Buena Vida Hospice prefer the comfort and relief of cannabis medicine as an alternative to harsh opioid treatments,” said Melissa Trevino, co-founder and administrator at Buena Vida Hospice. “More than 20% of our patients currently rely on medical cannabis treatments—expanding our partnership with Texas Original ensures our ability to provide our patients access to life-changing cannabis medicine.”

Located at 810 S. Highway 6 #101, Houston, the Katy-area site is now open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday and offers Texas Original’s full suite of medical cannabis products to qualifying patients registered under the state’s Compassionate Use Program (CUP).

“As a physician specializing in hospice care, medical cannabis is an incredible tool to ensure the highest quality of care for my patients,” said Dr. Medrano. “I would like the option to prescribe it for our many patients suffering from chronic pain—which is unfortunately not currently a qualifying condition under the CUP.”

Under state law, Texans with a variety of qualifying conditions are eligible for a medical cannabis prescription, including spasticity, neuropathy, PTSD, cancer, epilepsy and hundreds of neurodegenerative disorders. Texans can obtain medical cannabis prescriptions through online clinics or local physicians registered with the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas.

“We are committed to making medical cannabis more accessible to patients across the state of Texas,” said Nico Richardson, CEO of Texas Original. “Our goal is to ensure every qualifying patient and their physician knows there are safe, effective medical cannabis options available to them under the CUP. Dr. Medrano and his team at Buena Vida are incredible partners in this effort. We’re proud to both serve their patients with the highest-quality medical cannabis products available in the state and expand our reach throughout Houston’s suburbs.”
